Master of Taxation by Research
Program Details The Master of Taxation by Research is a groundbreaking program. It is a research degree, uniquely taxation focused, which challenges students and gives them the opportunity to make significant contribution to taxation research.
Students in this program will develop advanced research skills in taxation, significantly broaden their taxation knowledge and competitively position themselves to pursue an academic or professional career.
Students have the opportunity to pursue their academic interests in taxation through the preparation of a significant research project. In consultation with their research supervisor, students will submit a research dissertation proposal that reflects their interests.
In the coursework component of the course, students are trained in advanced legal research and writing skills. Their qualitative and quantitative skills are also refined in this program.
Program Structure In the Master of Taxation by Research program, students must complete 4 courses (24 units of credit) and a major research project (48 units of credit). Three of the four courses that students complete as course work are compulsory.
How long? 1.5 years full time or 3 years part time.
What's the workload? Each of the coursework courses runs for a 12 week semester. For the dissertation, students will conduct original research, which will be written up in a research report that should not exceed 50,000 words.
What are the entry requirements? Applicants are expected to have an undergraduate degree in taxation, law or commerce of equivalent standing and content comparable to UNSW qualifications. Candidates for the Master of Taxation by Research will normally be expected to have achieved a credit average or better in their first degree and to have studied taxation.
