Binh Tran-Nam

 

Previous Positions
Prior to joining Atax as a foundation staff in 1991, Binh was a lecturer in the School of Management at Deakin University, where he taught microeconomics, industrial economics and econometrics. He had joined Deakin University after several years working as National Research Fellow in the Centre for Applied Economic Research at the University of New South Wales. Binh’s first full-time job, following his PhD graduation, was a lectureship in economics at University of Auckland. He was appointed a visiting Associate Professor at the University of California (Santa Barbara) in the spring quarter of 1999.

  • Glorifying Vietnam award by the Vietnamese Government for outstanding contribution to the building of Vietnam, 2007

  • San Jose State University International Tax Policy Research Fellowship 2006

  • Certificate of Commendation by the Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs for effective research into economic development and international integration of Vietnam, 2004

  • Technical consultant to AusAID, the ATO, the Australian Vice-Chancellors’ Committee, the Board of Taxation, the NZ IRD and Victorian Community Services

Summary of Publications
Binh has published research papers in refereed academic journals in Australia, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the UK and the US. Together with some Atax colleagues, he has completed two major research projects commissioned by the Australian Taxation Office on compliance costs of the federal tax system. More recently he has developed an interest in the transition economies of China and Vietnam, and has published several books and articles in this area.
