Previous Positions
Helen is a qualified accountant with specialised expertise and postgraduate degrees in taxation and was appointed as a lecturer at Edith Cowan University in 2001. From 1989 until 1996 Helen was a lecturer in taxation at Curtin University of Technology. She was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1996.

Summary of Publications
Helen has authored and co-authored a number of textbooks in taxation and trusts. She has also published a number of papers, including refereed papers, in taxation in Australia, and presented papers at professional seminars regularly over the last decade.

Other

Helen is enrolled in PhD examining the design of a family tax transfer system.

Helen was elected to the Western Australian Legislative Council in December 1996 and held the seat for four years. During this time in the Western Australian Parliament she broadened her knowledge of public administration and developed considerable understanding of public policy in a number of portfolio areas.

Helen was also appointed as an Independent Prison Visitor in Western Australia from 2001 to 2004, and has served on the Uniting Church Social Justice Commission.
