Research

Atax is the leading tax school in Australia. Staff are committed to excellence in tax research and have contributed to Atax's enviable international reputation. A major strength of Atax is its multidisciplinary nature, with experts from many fields including law, accounting and economics. Staff have extensive experience and expertise in designing and undertaking legal, quantitative and qualitative tax research. The breadth and depth of our expertise in tax research is evidenced by our track record. Atax has undertaken research, consultancies and reviews for many government departments both in Australia and overseas; professional bodies; industry groups; businesses and private individuals.

Our annual research reports list our projects and publications. Atax also holds regular research seminars to which visitors are welcome. We have a growing cohort of quality research students both from Australia and overseas who are working on a diverse range of key projects. Each year we invite Visiting Fellows, leaders in their field, with whom we collaborate and continue to further develop our research. Our research has made an outstanding contribution to tax policy, tax law, tax reform and tax administration both in Australia and overseas.

Atax hosts the biennial International Conference on Tax Administration which brings together leaders from around the globe to share the latest research and innovative practices in tax administration.

Atax is a founding member of the International Network of Tax Research (INTR) which was launched in 2005 by a group of research institutions and the OECD. The INTR aims to promote a global view of tax issues and to encourage input from developing as well as developed countries in its research projects.
