Conference Brochure and Final Programme is now available

Welcome to the Australasian Tax Teachers Association Conference 2010, “Changing Times – Changing Taxes?” 20 - 22 January 2010 at UNSW, Sydney, Australia. We look forward to welcoming you to UNSW.

Programme

The conference program has been finalised, and can be accessed through the above link. We have a distinguished selection of keynote speakers:

  • Dr Ken Henry (Treasury) will be our first keynote speaker to discuss the work of the Tax Review Committee over the last year
  • Justice Richard Edmonds will give a legal perspective
  • Michael D`Ascenzo, Commissioner of Taxation, will address issues of Tax Administration and
  • Professors Catherine Brown and Neil Buchanan will bring an international flavour to the discussions.

The papers to be presented by other conference delegates have been grouped into four streams: Tax Policy, Tax Administration, Tax Technical and International and Comparative Issues. There is truly something for everyone!

We are particularly excited by the number of participants in the PhD workshop – we needed to expand into two streams to include all of the worthy applicants for the workshop.

We have also included opportunities for networking in the social programme, with the welcome function on Wednesday and the Cricket match on Friday, both on campus; and the conference dinner at the Sydney Marriott in Sydney on Thursday night. Families are welcome to the cricket match at no extra charge, although there is a charge for partners to attend the dinner.

Registrations

On-line registrations will remain open until 13 January 2010. After this date, you will need to contact Christine Brooks directly christine.brooks@unsw.edu.au as a late registration.

If you plan to attend the PhD day, which has no registration fee, without attending the main conference please contact Christine directly.

If you have already registered, you should have received an email asking you to confirm your requirements. Please complete this form and return it as it will allow us to make firm bookings with our suppliers and avoid disappointment.

If you have booked accommodation at the Student Village, you will be sent the information required for check in.

Campus Transport and Parking

Transport information is available at the following links:

If you are driving to UNSW paid car parking is available in the UNSW permit parking spaces. Please drive in Gate 2 High Street and park in the UNSW permit parks in the car park on the right in 1st East Ave. Parking cost to delegates is $5 per day and must be pre booked to receive this concessional rate. Payment for your permits is made at registration where you will receive your permit. Parking is subject to availability on the day. If this park is full further UNSW Permit parking is available in the parking building at gate 14, Baker Street.

Taxis should be directed to either the pedestrian entrance on Anzac Pde, or Gate 2 on High St. The university is about 20 minutes from the domestic airport.

Conference Dinner

A complimentary bus will operate to and from the conference dinner which is being held at the Sydney Marriott in Darlinghurst. Pick up is available at both UNSW Village at Coogee. Seats must be booked.

If you are travelling with children and require a babysitter for the conference dinner please contact your hotel ahead of time. We have a number of University and school students who may be available to assist. Please contact me if you would like the contact details of a student babysitter. While we are happy to put you in touch with students any babysitting arrangements made are between you and the student and are not the responsibility of UNSW.

Internet Access

We have arranged for delegates to have access to a computer lab for the duration of the conference. The University requirements to provide wireless access are very specific and require guests to complete an application form at least three days in advance. If you require this facility, please contact Christine Brooks directly christine.brooks@unsw.edu.au. There will be an administration fee.

Sponsors

Once again we would like to thank the sponsors, without whom the conference would not be possible, particularly the Gold Sponsor Thomsons Reuters.
